Messaging and Notifications
Coachyn contacts you on purpose. Here's exactly what you agreed to, what a check-in contains, and how to stop it.
Draft notice. This page describes how Coachyn is intended to work and is written in plain language on purpose. It is not yet a finalised legal document and has not been reviewed by counsel. If something here matters to a decision you're making, ask us rather than assuming.
1. Why this page exists
Most products send you notifications. Coachyn's whole premise is that it will contact you when you haven't done something — which makes the consent, the content, and the off switch worth writing down properly rather than burying in a settings screen.
2. The channels
| Channel | Used for | How it's enabled |
|---|---|---|
| In-app | Everything. Your coaching conversation lives here. | Always on — it is the service. |
| Push notification | Check-ins when a window closes, and reminders you asked for. | You grant permission on your device and enable it in settings. |
| Check-ins, weekly or monthly recaps, and service messages. | Opt in during onboarding or in settings. | |
| SMS | Check-ins on plans that include it. | You provide and confirm your own mobile number, and opt in explicitly. |
Service messages — password resets, billing notices, security alerts, and material changes to these terms — are sent by email regardless of your check-in preferences, because they're part of running your account. They are not marketing.
3. What you're consenting to
When you enable a channel you're agreeing that Coachyn may contact you on it about the goals and commitments you've set, including when you haven't done something you said you would. That is the product working as intended.
- Consent is per channel. Turning on push doesn't turn on SMS.
- Consent is not a condition of using Coachyn. The free and paid plans work without any proactive channel enabled — you'll simply need to come to it.
- You must own the phone number or device you enable. Entering someone else's is a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy.
4. How often
Frequency follows your commitments, not a fixed schedule. In practice that means a check-in around the time a step you committed to was due, plus follow-up if you don't reply. A typical active goal generates a small number of messages a week.
Your accountability intensity affects the tone and persistence of follow-up. Quiet hours, if you set them, are respected on every channel except account-security messages.
5. What a check-in contains
Check-ins reference the specific commitment you made — that's what makes them work. On a phone with a lock-screen preview enabled, part of that text may be visible without unlocking the device.
It's worth thinking about before you enable push or SMS for a sensitive goal. Two things help: turn off previews for the app in your device settings, or keep that goal to in-app check-ins only.
6. Stopping messages
Any channel
Turn it off in your notification settings. It stops immediately, and nothing else about your account changes.
SMS
Reply STOP to any Coachyn text message to stop SMS check-ins. Reply HELP for help. Both are handled automatically and take effect straight away. Stopping SMS doesn't affect your other channels, your subscription, or your data.
Email check-ins
Use the unsubscribe link in any check-in or recap email, or change it in settings. Service messages (section 2) will still be sent.
Push
Turn it off in Coachyn settings, or revoke the permission in your device's system settings.
7. Costs
We don't charge you per message. Your mobile carrier's standard message and data rates may apply to SMS, and message delivery is not guaranteed — carriers, roaming, and network issues are outside our control.
8. The data behind it
Your phone number and push token are used only to deliver the channels you enabled, and are passed to the messaging providers described in the Privacy Policy. They are not sold and not used for advertising. Turn a channel off and the associated identifier is no longer used; delete your account and it's removed with everything else.
9. Not an emergency channel
Messages you send back are read by a coaching system, not by a person on standby. Coachyn is not a crisis service — see the Coaching Disclaimer. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
10. Contact
Something arriving that shouldn't be? Tell us and we'll stop it at our end, whatever the settings say.
